For centuries, China has had a tradition of creating visually-stunning art from raw wood. These sculptures showcase intricate designs and images and help illustrate China’s historic culture. The tradition continues today with Zheng Chunhui’s masterpiece.
Named “Along The River During the Quinming Festival,” this sculpture is a replica of a famous Chinese scroll painting from the Song Dynasty over 1,000 years ago. The wood carving sits on display at the Palace Museum in Beijing where visitors admire this brilliant work.
The finished carving is over 40 feet long and includes detailed carvings that illustrate daily life in ancient China.
It also includes buildings, bridges, and boats that help illustrate the ancient painting with detailed 3D effect.
Over 550 villagers were carved out in the masterpiece.
As you admire the amazingly intricate work, it’s hard to imagine how something so dazzling could be finished in four years.
With extraordinary patience and profound work, Chunhui completed one of the marvelous wood carvings the world has ever seen.
