Kasungu elephant wounded by poachers... by mohsin-naqvi
Update on Kulimba, 30 March 2015: It is with great sadness we must inform you that Kulimba, the young elephant shot by poachers, has passed away. The bullets did too much damage to her bone structure, and the veterinarians couldn’t help her. Please know that in her last moments she was kept cool and pain-free by the anti-poaching team and volunteers. She passed away yesterday.
In the past few years, Matt and his team of volunteers have significantly reduced poaching in the park – but, it hasn’t been enough. Just last week one of the last 50 elephants was shot, a young female named Kulimba. She went to the anti-poaching camp for help.
Matt: “Elephants are highly intelligent, and Kulimba knows the camp is a safe place for her. We are watching her around the clock to make sure the poachers can’t finish their work.”
She’s doing a lot better now but we need to prevent poachers from returning to finish their work.
Thanks to a very generous donation, ShadowView has the funds to build Matt his own anti-poaching drone. In the coming week, he’ll be training with our very own Gyro Gearloose, our drone builder in South Africa. But he also needs a thermal camera for work at night when most poaching incidents happen. Will you help Matt and his team catch poachers? Sponsor a thermal camera.
