Best place to live where to live in London in 2015.
With 32 boroughs (plus the City) and over 7 million inhabitants, choosing where to live and invest in property in London can be a challenging, but exciting prospect.
With such a vast variety of neighbourhoods and communities to choose between and everything from modern glass high-rises to converted Grade II listed buildings, the choice is enormous. To make things easier for you we have taken the time to pick out the highlights in order to help you with making your decision.
From 2015, the key areas for enviable city living are likely to be located near Crossrail, the high-frequency, high-capacity new train line that opens in London in 2018. Kingston, Aldgate, Farringdon and Maida Vale all benefit from nearby Crossrail stations, so look set to become prime spots in the capital for living and working.Ruth Hartnup
Aldgate
A true pinnacle of London living, Aldgate is perfectly located between the modern bustle of the City, and the winding streets of Spitalfields. This popular area benefits from the best of both worlds, with an easy commute into London's financial and business districts, plus all the unique amenities of the East End, including new pop-up venues, vintage shops, famous clubs and delicious international cuisines of Brick Lane. Nearby Liverpool Street is already a major rail and underground station, but the addition of Crossrail will add even more destinations and significantly cut travel times to other areas of London, and beyond.Redrow London's One Commercial Street property in Aldgate East is a Premium development, with a variety of luxury 3 bedroom penthouses overlooking the City. This contemporary glass sculpture won Best High Rise Development at the UK Property Awards in 2013, and benefits from city views to rival those of the Gherkin. Click here to view the development
Farringdon
The historic area of Farringdon in Clerkenwell has undergone a radical transformation in the last few decades, and is now home to an array of exciting new start-up businesses and shared offices, attracting swathes of affluent young entrepreneurs to live and work there. There has been a settlement here since the Medieval period and the history of Clerkenwell is still present in the form of 17th century buildings and traditional London wholesale markets such as Smithfields.Restaurants Iberica, Polpo, St John's and the Michelin-starred Club Gascon are particularly popular, while the quirky Zetter Townhouse is a great spot for cocktails. This area is creative, vibrant and cool, and when Farringdon station is upgraded to Crossrail in 2018 it will also be one of the best-connected hubs in London.
The striking Fann Street development is located at the Barbican, close to Farringdon; created through the transformation of a Grade II listed Brutalist building from the 1960s. For us, the property defines Legacy: making a famous design institution inhabitable, altering the nature of the Barbican area for the modern age. Click here to view the development.
